Puttu — meaning "portioned" in Malayalam — is a beloved breakfast across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, parts of Karnataka and Sri Lanka. Steamed cylinders of ground rice layered with grated coconut, served hot with sweet sides like palm sugar and banana, or savoury curries of dal, chickpea, mutton, fish or chicken.
