What is Tres Leches cake?
A popular authentic Mexican moist cake. The syrup is made of tres leches (which means three kinds of milk). The syrup poured over the bread, makes every bite decadently moist. Moreover, the cake is rich but has a light feel to it and is balanced by the lightly sweetened whipped cream.

This recipe calls for very simple ingredients, most of which are refrigerator and pantry staples. Evaporated milk with condensed milk is poured over the bread assembling. In addition it is topped with a 2-ingredient whipped cream frosting. Further, refrigerating or cooling makes it rigid in texture.

Ingredients
8 Bread Slices
2 tbsp Chopped Pistas & Almonds
- Milk Syrup
1 cup Milk
4 tbsp Condensed Milk
1/4 tsp Vanilla Essence (optional)
- Pistachio Syrup
25 to 30 Pistachios
2 tbsp Sugar
2 tbsp Milk
- Topping Cream
1/4 tsp Vanilla Essence (optional)
1 cup Whipping Cream
2 tbsp Powdered Sugar
Directions
- Firstly, remove the crust from the bread pieces. Keep them aside.
- Making Pista Syrup
- Soak 25 to 30 pistachios in water for 30minutes, Remove the husk and clean them.
- Add these pistachios, 2 tbsp sugar in a mixie jar. Grind it finely.
- Now add 2 tbsp milk and grind it to a fine smooth paste. Keep it aside.
- Milk Syrup
- Let us start making a milk syrup. For that add 1 cup milk at room temperature and 4 tbsp condensed milk in a mixing bowl.
- Mix them well until condensed milk is dissolved.
- Add 1/4 tsp vanilla essence and 2 tbsp pista syrup. Mix them well. Keep it aside.
- Assembling
- Now take a pan or bowl which you want to set this bread cake. Assemble the bread pieces without any gaps. Fill in all the gaps by cutting the bread slices to the required size and shape.
- Now pour the milk syrup over the first layer.
- Then place the bread slices second layer and assemble them properly without any gaps.
- Pour the remaining milk syrup over the bread pieces.
- Close it using a cling film and allow it to refrigerate for 30 minutes. Meanwhile let us make the top layer.
- Cream Layer
- Take 1 cup of heavy whipping cream in a bowl. Beat it until it forms soft peaks.
- Then add 1/4 tsp vanilla essence and 2 tbsp powdered sugar. Beat until it forms medium peaks.
- Then add the remaining pista syrup and combine them well.
- Final Topping
- Now spread the whipped cream over the bread milk cake top.
- Smooth over the top of the cake.
- Sprinkle some chopped pistachios and almonds (optional).
- Close it with a cling film & refrigerate for 3 to 4 hrs. or Freeze it for 1 to 2 hrs.
- Cut & serve the yummy bread cake.
