Bakery Style Eggless | Ovenless Bun. Buns are soft, fluffy, and moist, salted with a touch of sweet. I love the aroma of buns while baking.:)
A bun can be small, sometimes sweet, bread-based item or roll. Though they come in many shapes and sizes, they are most commonly hand-sized or smaller, with a round top and flat bottom.
Buns are usually made from flour, sugar, milk, yeast and butter. Here we are going to see an eggless & ovenless bun recipe. We are going to bake these buns in 2 methods: using an idli plate & using a pan. Do enjoy our recipe.

Ingredients
2cups Maida/All purpose flour
1tbsp+as required butter/oil
2tbsp sugar
a pinch of salt
1/2cup milk
4tbsp lukewarm water/milk
1/2tsp yeast
Directions
- Firstly, add 1/2cup lukewarm milk to a large mixing bowl followed by 2tbsp sugar, 1/2tsp yeast & a pinch of salt. Mix it well.
- Close the bowl & let it sit for 5 min. Luke warm milk activates yeast.
- After 5min, add 2 cups of maida to the mixing bowl & start mixing the dough initially using a fork & then by hands.
- Let’s start making the dough by adding 4tbsp lukewarm milk /water in intervals. I am going to use water. Do not use 4tbsp water at a time. Knead & add gradually.
- Knead dough for 5 to 10 min & dough will be soft & smooth.
- Add 1tbsp butter/oil & knead it once again for 5 min.
- Let this dough rest for 1hr. Cover the bowl with a wet cloth.
- After 1hr the dough has risen to double size. Now deflate the dough & knead for another 5 min.
- First divide the dough into 2 equal parts. From one part I am going to make 4 buns. Divide 1 part into 4 equal parts.
- Now start rounding the dough pieces to round shape by pulling edges to top. Repeat this for all pieces of bun.
- After rounding & benching 8 pieces of the bun, we are going to bake.
- Baking is done in 2ways: we are going to bake 4buns in Tawa & another four in idli plates.
- Baking using Idli Plate
- Take a pan & place a steel plate/wire stand in the pan. Place the idli plate over this plate.
- Now grease the idli plate with butter & place bun doughs. Grease butter/oil over the bun.
- Now close the lid of pan & allow the dough to rise for 30min.
- The dough will rise to double size. Once the dough has risen it’s ready to be baked. Now garnish the dough with white sesame seeds at this time.
- Let us cover the idly plate using aluminum foil paper & cover it with a weighted lid.
- Cook it on a gas stove over low flame for 10 to 12 min.
- Apply some butter on the bun for moist texture.
- Our soft & fluffy buns are ready.
- Baking in Pan
- Take a pan. Grease the pan with butter/oil. Now place a butter paper over it & grease paper with butter or oil.
- Place the remaining 4 doughs over the baking paper, leaving space between each dough. Grease butter/oil over the bun dough.
- Now close the lid of pan & allow dough to rise for 30min.
- Once done, garnish the dough with white sesame seeds at this time.
- Let us cover the pan using aluminium foil paper & cover it with a weighted lid.
- Cook it on a gas stove over low flame for 10 to 12 min.
- Apply some butter on the bun for moist texture.
- Our soft & fluffy buns are ready.
